New Year, New You!
Written by Elsa VanHove, CROSO Board Member
“New year, new you!” is the lighthearted phrase plastered all over American media every January, encouraging us to start the year off right with a set of resolutions. This year, we asked some of our scholars what their 2019 New Year's resolutions are, and they vary from personal to professional, and social. Francis, like a lot of us, will try to set an exercise routine “for improving the activity of the brain and heart.” However, he also is taking a more mindful approach to his studies and career by “being focused on what has taken me to campus.”
Mindfulness was a recurring theme for our scholars. Stephen and Titus are both looking to use their faith to help them focus, “reading and meditating in the word of God.” Titus is looking not only to his faith for inspiration, but also to the words of businessmen and philanthropists that have been successful in their lives like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. He plans to get into a routine “reading two pages of [those] books daily.”
Of course, our scholars are resolved to make 2019 a great year for academics and professional development! Stephen and Ronald are both determined to “excel in all course units.” Ronald will look for a law firm where he can volunteer this year. Making more friends -- both personal and professional -- is something our scholar are set out to do this year as well, because they understand the long-term value of positive relationships.
It’s all too easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and to get in the habit of ignoring the to-do list. We’re still at the beginning of 2019, so it’s still a great time to take a step back and consider your goals for this year and what you need to do to achieve them. CROSO is so proud of our scholars for taking the time to reflect and reset on their own goals and plans. We know they will achieve great things this year!
Is volunteering on your 2019 resolutions list too? There’s lots of ways you can get involved in CROSO, and we would love to have you! Click here to learn more!
