Esther was first accepted as a CROSO Scholar in 2011, when she was seeking a diploma from the Soroti School of Comprehensive Nursing. She reapplied as a CROSO scholar to continue her journey to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Midwifery at Gulu University’s Lira campus. She is expected to graduate in 2020!

Esther has obtained a great deal of information regarding nursing and midwifery through these two courses. While many people may simply absorb this information, Esther has been able to apply what she learns, especially through her internship opportunities. It is clear that Esther is well versed in her field of study due to the extensive training she underwent. During September of last year, Esther participated in an internship that allowed her to hone her skills in order to become a midwife, “I enjoyed delivering babies… I monitored each mother with her baby every day from the time of receiving the mother in labour till she was discharged from the hospital. Each student had to care for five mothers and five babies…”

She is known throughout her campus and where she has worked as lively and compassionate, a woman who easily shares kindness and laughter. These natural personality traits will be a great complement to the academic knowledge Esther is gaining. It reinforces the incredible job that Esther will do as a nurse and midwife. Esther is excited to translate the information that she has gained from her educational experience into her career following graduation in 2020.

Esther’s Vision for the Future:

Esther has big dreams for her future and isn’t afraid to think beyond what currently exists. Through her innovation and ability to keep challenging herself, she has set her hopes on starting her own nursing and maternity home one day. She has recognized this as a crucial need in her community and wants to be the one to fix it.

More about Esther’s Background History:

Esther was greatly impacted by the HIV epidemic after her father and three siblings died, she helped her mother take care of her remaining family members by scavenging the streets for coal and food. Esther’s ability to take initiative in order to help her family translated well into her academics, she became an active volunteer on the farm as a crop cultivator and helped in the nurse’s clinic. She also participated in various sports, and opportunities that involve music, dance, and drama; Esther is not only someone who is passionate about what she does, but she is extremely knowledgeable as well.
