Ssenyonjo Marius Eric
CROSO Scholar, and recent graduate, Eric has demonstrated so well that his past experiences do not define him. After his mother and father got divorced, and once his father remarried, Eric faced mistreatment and malnourishment which led him to move to the streets of Mbale “in order to find peace and food for survival.” Eric’s involvement as chairman of a Peer Educators Club while in secondary school allowed him to build his leadership skills through the hosting of radio talk shows that focused on children’s rights, organizing exchange visits and community clean ups, and other community oriented activities.
Eric’s CROSO Scholarship:
In 2019, Eric obtained his Bachelor Degree of Civil Engineering from Ndejje University and is now officially an engineer! He has been dreaming of achieving this title since his childhood and through hard work and persistence, was able to obtain it!
He obtained two different internship opportunities while he was a scholar which will help him tremendously in the future. The first, an internship with Roko Construction Limited in Uganda, in 2017, was a two month long position in which he supervised the masonry work at the construction site. The second internship was in the year 2019 where Eric worked with the Ministry of Works and Transport in Uganda where he worked in the department of civil engineering and dealt with highways and the assessment of roads in Uganda. This second internship, or graduate training, enabled him to obtain even more skills he could use in the future as well as set the groundwork for future employment.
Eric’s Vision for the Future:
Eric’s plans for the future are exciting. He plans to become a “great and unique” engineer who will make sustainable structures in Uganda and from there, change the face of engineering. Eric is also already started to save up so that he may one day open his own company of engineering. Eric has started working with ROKO Construction LTD as a site Engineer for the construction of the Kampala Flyover in his town.
