Namagali Joshua Rainah
Joshua’s vocation in life is to become a doctor. Joshua’s dream to become a doctor started in 2009 when a doctor saved his and his siblings’ lives. He has been inspired to be a persevering young man by witnessing others who, although they experienced similar hardships as him and his brother, were able to successfully achieve their dreams. Joshua became a CROSO Scholar in 2021 and is intended to complete his Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery at Kampala International University in 2026. As he expressed to CROSO with enthusiasm, “I’m ready to achieve my dream!”
He has demonstrated commitment to his vocation through his focus and determination, strong academic performance and willingness to learn from others. After excelling in both his UCE and UACE exams, Joshua patiently waited for over two years to collect the funds to pursue his tertiary education. During this important period of his life, Joshua gained memorable skills as an active member of his community. He received Red Cross’ First Aid training and gained medical experience as a volunteer at the CRO Clinic.
Due to COVID-19, his first semester at KIU presented new challenges, yet Joshua made sure to never miss a lecture! He adapted and loves his studies, especially math, chemistry, and biology. Fortunately, Joshua described KIU as “home away from home.” Always with a grateful attitude towards life, Joshua has shown a big desire to help those around him. Today, Joshua enjoys being the goalkeeper for KIU’s football team, listening to gospel music, reading, and exercising.
Vision for the Future:
Inclusivity is one of Joshua’s driving forces as he envisions a future is which his practice guarantees that all his patients are “equally treated and well attended to (...) irrespective of age, sex, or background.” He wishes to open a personal clinic upon graduation and further pursue a postgraduate degree in Neurology. As a socially-aware individual, he understands the impact that the existing shortage of doctors causes on vulnerable members of society and wishes to provide adequate medical attention to those who lack the resources to receive it. He has shown particular drive to ensure that every child around him has access to food.
