Loukae Peter
Peter was selected in 2019 for the CROSO Scholarship. He is excited to be pursuing his certificate in plumbing. Peter has recognized that the construction industry is flourishing and as a result, there are many opportunities for people to be successful within this field. He is studying at the Christian Childcare Program Vocational Institute in Mbale and expected to graduate in 2021. Prior to joining the institute, Peter had shown an aptitude and interest for this work through various experiences of volunteering at construction sites.
Vision for the Future:
Peter does not plan on limiting himself and one day hopes to not only open a shop that supplies plumbing materials and offers plumbing services, but he also hopes to develop a program that offers plumbing training opportunities to the youth in his community.
More on Peter’s Background:
Peter grew up fiercely independent. After a tough childhood, Peter ended up on the streets at the age of nine with no family support. Before C.R.O was able to help him, Peter scavenged for metal and loaded and unloaded trucks in order to raise money for food. Once Peter was found by C.R.O, he became an active participant throughout school and C.R.O. At school, he was involved with choir, drama, debate club, and he was president of the journalism club. At C.R.O, he volunteered in the catering department and was chairperson of the Peer Educators club, where he participated in street outreaches and educated children and his community on child rights.
