Mutesi Lydia
Lydia has been working relentlessly since she was accepted as a CROSO scholar in 2017, she is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in international relations and governance at Uganda Christian University in Mukono. As a CROSO scholar, Lydia hasn’t graduated yet but she has been immensely successful throughout her educational experience so far. Lydia was able to travel to Norway for an internship opportunity and has continuously received impressive grades. Lydia believes that she wouldn’t be not only the student she is today, but also the person due to her CROSO scholarship; she stated, “One of the opportunities that I have had through CROSO is the ability to communicate… coordination is another leadership skill that I have acquired through being a CROSO scholar. They build you, and they teach you to have that confidence so I really appreciate that.”
Lydia’s impressive work ethic has remained unwavered throughout her entire schooling, she was immensely active throughout opportunities that have been presented at C.R.O and her secondary schooling. At C.R.O, she became captain of the girls football team, volunteered as a peer educator, and was a participant of their choir as well. Throughout her secondary schooling, she was also the captain of the girls soccer team and eventually became her schools Sports Prefect. Lydia also became chairperson for the International Inspirations Club and even took the initiative to start academic group discussions in her history class no other clubs or groups were available. It is clear that Lydia has always exhibited strong leadership skills that has continued to strengthen as she continues.
Lydia’s Vision for the Future:
Lydia is extremely passionate about working in refugee camps; the idea of potentially working in a war zone such as South Sudan, The Congo, Afghanistan, or any other country that might be in crisis, is very exciting to her. More specifically, Lydia stated, “I love negotiating peace… there are so many ways that I want to transform my community, but I am not limiting myself to just my community.”
More Background Information on about Lydia:
Lydia grew up immensely independent, her only memories of her parents are through stories that were passed on from her siblings. Lydia’s older sister took care of her and her two other brothers before they ran away, and as a result, Lydia was forced to scavenge the streets for charcoal. After two years, Lydia was discovered by C.R.O workers and she eagerly agreed to accept their support.
